I definitely feel like I achieved the sort of “visual synthesis” that I’ve been attempting with my more experimental work throughout the past year. For this band, I wanted to capture the area that many of their shows are held (Thai Town, Hollywood, CA). It’s a very colorful area that I’ve been familiar with since I was in high school, so it was easy for me to understand the type of feel that the band wanted to express. The idea of the work “revolving” within itself where each element points to another within itself was the end the goal that I felt confident in achieving.

I’ve always felt that many “technical” hardcore metal bands choose the all too easy (and too obvious) visual motifs that plague many lesser bands. I wanted to place the prospective listener in the proper mindset by visually preparing them for the chaotic, bewildering, yet obtusely beautiful sonic experience that awaited them.

Simplicity and elegance. The main challenge was in creating something that would be attractive to the young, Korean female audience. My main solution was in utilizing the iconography of the brand, yet still placing it within a edgier, modern context (by the use of the more suggestive photograph).

The client originally wanted a much more sterile (read: masculine) motif until we presented him with the above concept. It was an easy method to illustrate the different aesthetic styles that appeal to the opposing sexes.
